Posi vibes
(we just filmed a music video) - post originally from April 10!
Hi hello. How are you? Man I am just really trying to keep to my self-promised schedule.
This past Saturday the band filmed a music video in my basement for the song “A Rose, a Thorn.” We released the EP with that same name more than a year ago but we’re keeping the momentum going while learning brand-new songs. In the past I had strong music video ideas but this time Neil (bassist) and Michael (drummer) really led the way. Michael is truly multi-talented as he also has a passion for filmmaking and has been doing music videos for us and other projects like Dollpile. Neil is so full of awesome ideas and it is such a relief to see him fly high with possibilities. It’s freaking cool. So I just brought a simple-ish idea of projecting photos of flowers on my basement wall and standing in front of it and Neil and Michael really took it next level. Sarah (singer/synth) has such a natural knack for what looks and sounds good, and is just perfect in everything they do. It just feels good to work with these friends.
Michael came over at 9am to set up his video equipment (he had brought his drums over the week before for practice so he wouldn’t have to bring everything at once). Sarah and I had collected fake flowers and I bought some more that week for the background. I also attempted to make big crepe paper flowers but just couldn’t get it done in time. Neil had an idea of having a tea party (or was it Sarah)? And Michael brought 2 different projectors to bring in multiple strong images of the flower photos. I thought it would be fun to try to do TikTok live during the shoot. It kind of worked! It was just fun to experiment with that. Neil had a great plot idea but we had to kinda make do with the time and props we had so it ended up being a shoot of us playing along with our unplugged instruments and microphones, then having a tea party. And just various ideas from everyone about good shots in those colored lights and flowers. Is any of this making sense? I’m just stream of consciousness writing about it here. Meanwhile, my husband Miguel shot some behind the scenes stuff with his phone. Which of course I’ll be able to use for social media later. Perfect.
Then we paused to eat Thai food. That was important and significant and all the things because all this setting up of props and equipment and jumping around karaoke-ing to the song really took it out of us. We did a few more takes after lunch and then cleaned up and everyone went home. I took a nap with my new cat Douglas. I haven’t tested it yet for sure but he’s better than a weighted blanket.
